About Us
DEFY Labs is the company behind the world’s first mobile location-based game involving digital asset ownership, built on Web 3 rails. We launched the game into alpha in April 2022 and have since grown to over 50k Twitter followers and over 3,000 active players.
As a Game Designer, you’ll be focused on the fun. Your goal is to tug on the heartstrings of our players and to bring them into flow whilst fighting back against Future Systems, our corporate antagonist. You will be the glue between our economist and the Eng team. We have a small but awesome team that loves to move fast!
About the Role
We are currently hiring an experienced Lead Game Designer who has been involved in games from concept to production and has a vision for where the mobile games industry may go in the future.
You will be a key member of the design department, reporting directly into the CEO. You will push the game boundaries, constantly looking out to innovate and iterate successful ideas. You will be joining a team that strives for excellence and working most closely with the CTO and Game Economist.
We pay competitively, but not for people to “do work”; we pay to craft great experiences! If you enjoy gaming, are interested in web3, location-based experiences and enabling the creator economy, this will be a very exciting job.

Help with segmentation and market research to find out what target audience wants
About you
You’re a clear communicator. You’ll need to unify different people to share our vision of the future for the game, and being proactive at ensuring players are heard and engineers understand your specs is really important!
You have experience with designing complex game systems, ideally at least 5+ years, but candidates with less who can demonstrate required skills may be considered.
You have experience in sharing a vision for a game, then directing the game design and creating actionable user stories for engineering teams.
Experience in early-stage startups and all that comes with the space. We’re running fast and we need someone who can keep up with the pace and have the tenacity and dedication to perfect your craft in that environment.
You need to have been responsible for the entire game life cycle from concept to design, analysis, development and release.
Shipped real games in Production, learned from customer feedback and iterated on the product strategy.
You have an understanding of engineering best practices. We’re not expecting you to write code, but we do expect you to understand the reasoning behind technical decisions, and be comfortable with those.
You have excellent organisational, interpersonal, and analytical skills, and a reasonable attention to detail so that the engineers aren’t chasing you down every time you write a feature spec.
