About Us

DEFY Labs is the company behind the world’s first augmented reality move-and-earn game. We launched the game into alpha in April 2022 and have since grown to over 50k Twitter followers and over 9000 active players. It’s going well!

As a cloud engineer at DEFY Labs, you’ll be helping to build one of the world’s most fun mobile games. We currently have 4 mobile devs and 2 backend game devs, so it’s a small team. We’re well-funded and hiring like mad, so this is one of many roles we’re opening up over the months ahead.

About the Role

This role is to own, automate and operate our cloud infrastructure. We’ve designed a very awesome architecture that is super low maintenance, but it needs someone to evolve it as our growing player base expands globally.

Reporting into the CTO, you will be an integral part of the Engineering function, working closely with the team to design, automate and operate systems that require minimal effort. We pay competitively, but not for people to “do work”; we pay to craft great experiences!

If you enjoy gaming, are interested in web3, AR, location-based experiences and enabling the creator economy, this will be a very exciting job. Be prepared though: you’re going to need to be able to make high quality changes frequently, so if you haven’t worked in an environment like that there will be a learning curve! It’s not because we’re constantly under pressure - it’s because we share the excitement with our players and want to build better software for them to enjoy!

Responsibilities

• Ensure the high availability of our AWS cloud infrastructure

• Proactively analyse and identify areas for improvement of regarding the security, availability, reliability, performance, scalability and maintainability of the cloud architecture

• Manage AWS Route 53, ECS Fargate, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL

• Manage our epic Pubnub realtime messaging infrastructure

• Administer the SQL databases and architect them to scale

• 24/7 support of the environment. Sounds daunting, but we will fully support you in automating environment management, setting up monitoring and alerting and operational efficiencies the reduce the amount of environment issues that occur. We haven’t had any issues in 8 weeks now so it’s already a stable environment!
